Split
a city that offers a wealth of architectural landmarks and tourist attractions.
Prokurative (Republic Square)
They are located west of the Riva and they were named after the arches found on the neo-Renaissance buildings surrounding the square on three sides. The square is providing a beautiful view of the harbour and the Riva (waterfront). The building of the Prokurativa was initiated by one of the most renowned mayors in the history of the city Antonio Bajamonti in the mid 19th century.
Cathedral of Saint Domnius
The bell tower of the Cathedral (57m) is the most original Dalmatian Medieval architecture started in the 13th century. The bell tower was thoroughly reconstructed and somewhat altered at the turn of the 20th century. Today you can climb the steps all the way to the top of the bell tower, where a spectacular view of the entire Split awaits you.
Statue of Gregory Nin
He was a bishop in the medieval Croatian capital of Nin. Today he is remembered for defying the Catholic church in Rome, which opposed his call to introduce the national language into religious services in 926. Gregory is deep bronze in color, apart from one of his big toes, which has turned golden by decades of constant rubbing. Croatians are taught from an early age that rubbing Gregory’s big toe will grant them their wish.
